About Us
1st Light Energy is a company working at the cutting edge of environmentally friendly heating systems.
Founded five years ago, the company recently opened a new base on the Castledown Business Park, Ludgershall which is situated on the Hampshire/Wiltshire border and from there, the company serve domestic and business customers throughout the United Kingdom.
1st Light Energy supplies, installs and maintains solar PV (electricity), solar thermal( hot water) heating systems and air source heat pumps, climate control systems, underfloor heating and rainwater harvesting systems as well as advanced boiler controls.
Used singly or in combination, the renewable energy systems we supply and install can slash heating bills by dramatic amounts, with savings of up to 75 per cent of annual fuel costs possible, explains Technical Director Ian Madden not to mention the environmental benefits, with carbon emissions and the use of natural resources greatly reduced.
Solar panels mounted on the roof of a property use natural radiation from the sun to heat a high-tech fluid contained within them, which in turn produces hot water. The systems work even in the winter and on overcast days, retaining the property’s existing boiler to provide space heating (radiators and/or underfloor) and domestic hot water back-up.
The solar panels that 1st Light Energy supply are specially designed to work effectively even in the Northern Hemisphere climate, says Ian. Installation by the company’s fully qualified engineers involves minimal disruption and can be accomplished in around a day, depending on the size of the system.
Starting from around a very reasonable £3000, with a small government grant available, solar hot water heating can have a pay-back period of as little as six years, Ian says.
The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) will provide financial support for those who install renewable heating – including air and ground-source heat pumps as well as solar thermal – which qualifies for support under the scheme.
Air source heat pumps extract heat from outside air and can be used to run both hot water and heating systems, using conventional radiators and underfloor heating. Although electrically driven, air source heat pumps are far more efficient than conventional boilers and are being included as standard equipment in many new build properties.
1st Light Energy also offers intelligent boiler control and optimisation systems, which alone can save up to 30 per cent on domestic heating bills. The company can also supply compatible boilers and hot water cylinders if required.
When used together, all of these systems can result in enormous savings on annual fuel bills for both domestic and commercial premises as well as greatly reduced carbon emissions. The company is currently working with major house builders and a range of commercial clients across the UK. One of its most high profile projects – and house near Winchester - can be seen in a future edition of the Channel 4 programme Grand Designs.
As well as supplying and installing systems, 1st Light Energy also offers a comprehensive on-going maintenance service for both systems they have supplied and existing systems installed by other companies.
1st Light Energy engineers are fully BPEC qualified and the company uses products accredited by the Energy Saving Trust.
